2014/15 Arkansas Social Studies 9--12 Teacher of the Year!!

Mr. David L. Freligh, Social Studies Department Chairman of FCHS, has received the Arkansas Social Studies 9--12 Teacher of the Year award!! He was presented with the award from Arkansas Department of Education Public School Social Studies Program Advisor Maggie Herrick and Dustin Seaton, President of the Arkansas Council for the Social Studies at the Arkansas Curriculum Conference in Little Rock Nov. 6-7. Mr. Freligh is proud of his award, but credits this honor to his students first, the awesome people at the place he works (Forrest City High School), and finally the wonderful people with the Arkansas Council for the Social Studies and Maggie Herrick from ADE. Our Social Studies department at FCHS is obviously being noticed all across this State and there certainly is no better education anywhere else!

2014/15 Arkansas Secondary Art Teacher of the Year!!

Cheryl McMickle, FCHS Art teacher, has received the Arkansas Art Educators 2014/15 Arkansas Secondary Art Teacher of the Year award!! She will be honored in November at the AAE convention in Little Rock. Our district art departments are leading the state in art education. Let Mrs. McMickle know how proud you are of her and her accomplishments.

MUSTANGS WIN!! 5A Basketball State Champions

Congratulations to the Forrest City Mustang Boys Basketball team for winning the 5A Basketball Boys State Championship against the Jacksonville Red Devils. The Mustangs win with a score of 69-60. Outstanding job Coach Lofton and the Mustang Boys Basketball Team.

County Wide Spelling Bee

County Wide Spelling Bee

The county wide spelling bee was held on January 16 at EACC. There were approximately 18 students from the Junior High School and Lincoln Middle Academy of Excellence representing Forrest City School District. Angela Beard is the coordinator of the spelling bee from the Junior High, and Chris Oswalt is the coordinator from Lincoln.

The coordinators were very proud of the students, and they were pleased to announce that Forrest City School District had the top three winners of the county wide spelling bee!

Sasha McCoy (FCJH) - First place
Keshaun Jordan (LMAE) - Second place
Taylor Young (LMAE) - Third place

Sasha will be going on to the Mid-South Spelling Bee in Memphis on March 7.

FCHS Students Receive Honors

FCHS Students Receive Honors

In November, Forrest City students participated in a statewide contest to determine the flag for Arkansas. The Grand Prize winner's flag will be made into an actual flag to be flown in New Orleans in March.

Besides the Grand Prize winner, there are 1st - 4th places in 3 age categories: K-5, 6-8, and 9-12. FCHS students won the following honors:

1st Place -Jasmine Hill (9th grade)

3rd Place - Kadaisha White (12th grade)

4th Place - Maureese McLain (9th grade)

These student's flag designs will be on display at the State Capitol in March, and each will receive awards and prizes at that time.

Mr. Shaw's AP Statistics Class participates in the National Benjamin Banneker Week Activities.

Pictured are Tony Goodman 11th grade (Constructed a Benjamin Banneker Clock and Samirriah Mills (12th) who wrote a Poem one of Banneker's pastime activities).

Forrest City Jr. High School is proud to announce 2014 - 2015 Duke University "TIP" (Talent Identification Program) students. These outstanding students have qualified to take the ACT test in February with high school juniors and seniors based on their achievement test scores.

FCJH Quiz Bowl Team place 1st in GREC Quiz Bowl Tournament

The Forrest City Jr. High Quiz Bowl Team placed 1st in the GREC Quiz Bowl Tournament held at EACC on November 14th. The competition included 8 area schools.
